Yarn Yard Monsters

OctoberHalloweenFallEasy craft

A simple project for a chilly afternoon: clear sticky paper holds the yarn in place, and kids can make the face as strange as they want.

How to make Yarn Yard Monsters step-by-step with clear sticky paper, colorful yarn and googly eyes

What you need

How to make it

1

Cut the shape

Cut a big monster body from the clear sticky paper. It can be round, square, pointy or completely lopsided.

2

Sticky side up

Lay it sticky-side up. If the corners curl, tape them lightly to the table while you work.

3

Add the yarn

Press short pieces of yarn all over the sticky surface until your monster is as fuzzy as you want.

4

Make the face

Add eyes and paper teeth, horns, ears or a tongue. There is no correct monster face.

5

Seal it

Cover the front with another piece of clear sticky paper and press it down to keep everything in place.

6

Trim and hang

Trim around the outside. Add string or ribbon for a window, door or Halloween display.

Make it easier with younger kids

Pre-cut the clear paper and yarn, then let them handle the sticking and face. For older kids, put out the supplies and let them design the whole thing themselves.
